A Piece of Happiness – What Does Happiness Mean to You? Happiness changes over the years: What fulfilled us at 30 often feels completely different at 50. This article discusses why happiness never has a fixed definition and how we can continually rediscover it for ourselves.
A piece of happiness – why we women over 40 need our own definition
Searching for happiness or finding happiness?
Have you ever wondered why you read blogs, browse Instagram, or click through Pinterest? Is it really just about inspiration – or is there a longing for something greater behind it? Perhaps even for happiness?
I believe each of us already carries our own piece of happiness within us. We often overlook it in our daily lives. And: Is the happiness that fulfilled us 20 years ago still the same today?
Happiness changes, it is fleeting. Happiness means staying committed, because happiness needs to be nurtured. Happiness is unique, and we should appreciate that. And that’s exactly why it’s worth searching for it again and again – or better: discovering it within ourselves.

My journey to happiness – from the financial world to self-discovery
Hi, I’m Natalie, 55, in the midst of life and owner of the concept store “A Piece of Happiness”. But my path here was anything but straight.
As a bank clerk, I built my career in Paris, Milan, Munich, and London. Jet set, business class, hotels all over the world – sounds like a dream life, right? But was it really happiness? Perhaps you know the feeling: You achieve the goals you set for yourself, yet something is missing.
Later, I studied hotel management in Switzerland and even trained as a gourmet chef – without ever working in that profession. Sounds crazy? For me, it was a crucial step: I learned how valuable real service is. To give more than others expect. And that has shaped me to this day.
And now my question to you: What is your strength? And I am asking about strength, not in the sense of job interview strength – but about what defines you and fills your life with happiness.
Between family, self-forgetfulness, and new beginnings
In my early 30s, my great happiness came into my life: Peter, my husband, and later our two children. Those who have children know how much you hold back for yourself. Perhaps you have also asked yourself: Where have I actually gone?
Yes, I too lost myself for a while. But that was exactly what was important to rediscover myself. Today I see it this way: Happiness is a process. It changes, just like we do.
A piece of happiness – more than just a store
This insight led to the creation of my concept store "A Piece of Happiness". But why a store, you might ask? Do we really need more consumption, when it burdens our planet at the same time? Consumption is a primal instinct, a drive for survival, an expression of (further) development. Consumption releases happiness hormones, it is a status symbol, a sign of life. So I say: Yes, but differently. Consumption can be conscious, sustainable, and full of meaning.
In my concept store, it’s not about quick purchases, but about conscious finding. Every piece you discover here has a soul, a story, and a background that I know. From the cotton picker to the designer to the carpenter: Every person involved in the creation belongs to this chain of happiness.
For you, this means: You are not just buying a beautiful piece of clothing, a piece of furniture, or an accessory – you are giving appreciation, supporting fair working conditions, and taking home a piece of real history.
Because happiness does not come from mass-produced goods, but from things that touch us, that we like to touch, look at, and use – because they make sense. That’s exactly what my concept store stands for.
And now I'm curious:
👉 What does conscious shopping mean to you?
👉 When shopping, is it just about the product for you – or also about the good feeling behind it?
